MySpace launches new mobile website

MySpace has launched a new version of its social networking website which has been optimised for use on internet-enabled mobile phones.About 20 million members access the website through their handsets every month.As a result, the portal has invested in improving the functionality and layout in order to enhance the user experience for mobile internet customers.This development will make it the only social networking site with applications that can be supported on all smartphone platforms, such as Google Android and iPhone.The organisation commented: "The new mobile website further enhances the look and feel of MySpace on mobile, making it even more consistent with the popular online MySpace experience."Meanwhile, a study by comScore has found that three-quarters of internet users in Europe are registered with social networking websites.Figures showed that out of 282.7 million people who went online during December 2008, 211 million visited a site such as MySpace, Facebook and Bebo.

MWC 2009: Velti notes growing demand for smartphones

Mobile marketing specialists Velti have noted growing consumer demand for some of the features offered by smartphones.According to the organisation, mobile phone owners want greater freedom to personalise their handsets, beyond traditional options such as unique ringtones.Alex Moukas, chief executive of Velti, said this has been apparent in some of the offerings from manufacturers at this year's Mobile World Congress event.Vodafone, for instance, has just unveiled its new HTC Magic smartphone, which uses the Android platform currently used by the T-Mobile G1. Mr Moukas commented: "Not only does this latest news indicate a healthy smartphone market, it also strongly reflects the growing demand amongst consumers for greater freedom to personalise their mobile device."He added that the current generation of mobile phone users are now able to tailor their devices so they bring an "unparalleled" level of context and relevance to their lives.
